Hi Janet,
I believe you are correct. In the past (and this is quite a while ago), the Team Leader could remove themselves from the team. I think there was a delete button in the portal, but that was removed.
A Vote for a Feature (features.donorview.com/) entry can be submitted to suggest an enhancement. I hope that an action to change the P2P team leader is something easy to do.
